I played in a resolution of 1280x1024 at 32bit and it moved along quite nicely despite a few problems. The game supports resolutions beyond the call of duty. Graphically, Cricket 2000 does as many good things as it does bad. If you just fancy facing, or delivering, endless ball after ball you can book some time in the training nets and practice your talents. On the shorter side of things is the ball-slogging fest that is the One Day International. If you fancy another long game you can opt for the Six Round, where eight teams are split into two leagues and the ones that get to the top of their table play each other to become champions. You can go for a World Cup, the big-time consuming game. Each have their own strengths, such as Kenya's ability to slog a ball for six almost every time, but the teams seem to balance out quite nicely. It's nice to see a wide range of cricketing nations from the poor Scotland to the rather excellent South Africa make an appearance in the game. Rather than county cricket, EA Sports has gone for the international side of things.
The graphics engine provides a great view of the match from any angle. But how does this game compare to the real thing? EA Sports is the only one to provide any action on the crease at the moment, though publisher Empire does a nice range of cricket management games which includes the unparalleled International Cricket Captain 2. Sometimes you'd think developers should stop making rubbish racing and football games to allow some of the niche market sports see the light of day. Of course, cricket fans are rarely catered for by the computer industry. It makes the entire Cricket 2021 experience more of an actual game, and not just a video game based on a traditional sport.British cricket fans, how many summers have you gone without the gentle sound of leather upon willow? How many bright sunny days have you wasted wondering what it would be like to have a Sky Sports subscription and actually see a cricket game? How many times have you thought: "Wouldn't it be great if they made a computer game of cricket? I could live out my Darren Gough fantasies and beat the Sri Lankans to within an inch of their lives." Well, look no further, my friends because thanks to EA Sports, Cricket 2000 is here. As well as being able to practice with a live ball, you can test out the different options on offer to find out which ball strikes the ball most effectively. It's not just a case of swinging with your left hand, either - even a mediocre performer on your screen can bat and bowl! However, if you do prefer to take part in the action with a physical cricket ball, then you'll be happy to know that there are 'realistic' cricket balls available, which have been recreated to the highest detail and to emulate the bounce, weight and flight of a real ball. Overall, Cricket 2021 is not a flawless game, but it does have excellent physics simulation technology which does a wonderful job of recreating the action and running through the various conditions and difficulties.

It is perhaps the best piece of cricketing software which tracks individual and collective performance to help bowlers identify their strengths. The batting stats also reveal exactly how successful each of the bowlers is at striking the ball, helping you to identify the difference between average strike rates and effective strike rates. Using this will highlight the differences between players, helping you to identify strengths and weaknesses and therefore improve your batting and bowling stats. One of the most useful features of the software is its "bowling stats" tool - by using this, you can actually determine the average distance covered by each of the four bowlers during an over or under. It is extremely frustrating to play a perfect game only to have your over/under result displayed as incorrect, simply because you picked something else! The software is able to pick out very subtle variations in the action, however, so it is often able to pick out the small differences enough for you to be successful. If you select the icon correct, the software will give you the information that you need, but if you make any other selections, it will fail to detect your action. Each individual bowler in the match has an icon which appears on the screen after each bowler's action - it becomes red when the bowler is out and yellow when he is on. This means that batting mistakes are less likely to be replicated, as well as helping to ensure that a lower percentage of overs will end up as hits, reducing the number of unspoilt overs. A unique feature of Cricket 2021 is that, the software is able to detect and replicate the most difficult strokes of the bowling ball.
